WASHINGTON, DC — A bill that would keep the National Guard from entering Illinois without approval just got more support.
Congressman Eric Sorensen voted to pass the legislation, which would ban other states' National Guard troops from coming to Illinois without Governor J.B. Pritzker's consent.
"I'm not afraid to stand up to President Trump to protect my neighbors from an unlawful deployment of National Guard troops in our communities," said Sorensen. "I trust our state and local law enforcement agencies to go after criminals and keep our families safe."
If the President called for the National Guard, the bill would require yeses from both the state sending troops and the state receiving troops.
