COTTON PLANT, Ark. — An Arkansas prosecuting attorney has now determined that the use of force during a shooting involving an officer in early August has now been deemed as justified.

According to reports, on August 7, 2025, deputies responded to reports of an assault at a home on Woodruff County Road 639 near Cotton Plant.

When they arrived, they found an assault victim who was taken to a nearby hospital in Searcy and later transferred to a Little Rock hospital, where they received additional treatment.

Reports say that as deputies worked the scene, the suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Thomas Dixon, left the home and allegedly "advanced toward a deputy, not complying with commands to get on the ground."
