The Jacksonville Beach Police Department said on Monday that it arrested a man and a woman who are accused of stealing beachgoers’ phones and selling them at various stores and kiosks throughout Jacksonville.
According to police, detectives first learned about the situation in late June when a beachgoer went into the water and noticed their phone was missing after they returned to the shore.
After contacting the police, the victim was able to track their phone using the “Find my iPhone” feature to a nearby Eco ATM, the arrest reports said. Once the victim verified with police that it was, in fact, their phone that had been stolen, the victim was able to retrieve their device.
