MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -Starting Tuesday, the City of Madison will pilot a test to eliminate peak-hour driving lanes on Williamson Street.
Resident driven, the temporary change aims to find out if this lane closure will result in fewer crashes and improve pedestrian safety while being able to handle the high commuter traffic volume.
Currently, Willy Street opens a second lane for rush hour traffic and closes that lane to parking.
The second lane on Willy Street opens from 7 to 8:30 a.m. for westbound traffic and 4 to 5:30 p.m. for eastbound traffic.
During the test period, Willy Street will effectively become a single-lane street in both directions, allowing for parking on either side of the street.
