CHARLEVOIX — On the surface, the annual Charlevoix Mud Run race is a fun day away from the usual grind of cross country meet days.

But, there’s also the other side. It’s actually great practice for whatever comes a runner’s way during a season.

“It’s good preparation for who knows what’s going to happen,” Charlevoix coach Doug Drenth said. “You never know what state’s is going to be like. You can get down to states and it’ll be totally soft when you get back through the infield.”
