KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

Some Kansas City-area voters and advocacy groups are voicing concerns about proposals moving through Missouri’s special legislative session.

The “Missouri First Map” would split Kansas City’s 5th Congressional District into three separate districts, dividing areas such as North Kansas City, Gladstone, and Kansas City itself. Advertisement

Critics worry the change could dilute the region’s political influence and federal funding.

“This is also about dividing our community, dividing our community against each other. That doesn’t feel right,” said Jess Podhola, a delegate with the Greater Kansas City AFL-CIO.

Podhola noted that more than $19 billion in federal funding has flowed into the region over the past five years.
