KENNEBUNK, Maine — With students back in school, leaders from the Maine Association of Pupil Transportation remind drivers to practice proper bus safety rules on the road.

In Maine, it's against the law to pass a school bus when its lights are flashing red. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, Maine is one of 27 states that allow local governments or school districts to use cameras to capture drivers illegally passing buses.

School districts like Gorham and RSU 21, which covers Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, and Arundel, have interior and exterior bus cameras, MAPT president-elect and RSU 21 transportation manager Christopher Pasciuto said.
