WARRICK COUNTY, Ind. (WEVV) — A large fire involving hazardous materials forced thousands of Tri-State residents to stay indoors Saturday as ash and soot spread through the area.

The Mount family of Newburgh said they were shocked to see so much smoke near their home.

“It’s just crazy being this close to home, you know,” said Richard Mount, who was not at home when the initial explosion occurred but saw flames and smoke while heading back.

Mount shared two photos taken from his backyard, one timestamped at 8:14 p.m. and another at 8:49 p.m., showing the fire’s progression. He also knows someone who worked at the facility and confirmed no injuries were reported among employees or nearby residents.
