SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Body cam footage released Monday night shows the moment Springfield police pepper-sprayed and arrested a man.
The Springfield Police Department said that officers were on the scene of reports that a man was abusing a dog at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 6 along Yale Boulevard.
The person, later identified as K'Shawn Rush, was noticed by witnesses as "striking and choking" a dog. Springfield PD said witnesses believed the dog was stolen and Rush was attempting to use the dog to "threaten or intimidate" those around him.
Springfield police arrived to find Rush lying in the yard with the dog. Rush was said to be given clear commands, but he ignored them and tried to leave with the dog.
