BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana Department of Livestock reported a horse in Musselshell County tested positive for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) on Thursday, August 28.
The property where the horse resides is now under quarantine, with follow-up testing underway, the Montana Department of Livestock said in a release .
The department said the horse initially tested positive during a routine Coggins test, essential for equids moving across state lines, followed by a confirmed result from the USDA-APHIS National Veterinary Service Laboratories.
“Cases of EIA in Montana are sporadic and unfortunately, we are not always able to identify the original source of infection,” said Tahnee Szymanski, Montana State Veterinarian. “The best protection from this disease is to test new purchases along
