A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being shot in the chest by police during a standoff at a house fire in Brisbane’s east.
Emergency services were called to Cabanda Street, Wynnum West, at about 9.22am on Tuesday following reports of a blaze with someone still inside.
Queensland Police said the situation escalated when officers confronted the man.
“Upon arrival, it is believed an interaction occurred between the man and officers, as a result he was shot by police,” a spokesman said.
“Medical assistance was immediately rendered. A crime scene has been declared with investigations ongoing.”
The man was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital. No police officers were injured.
