Metro-North Railroad’s shift to a one-price fare for rides in New York City has led to surging ridership gains in the Bronx , a bright spot for a commuter rail struggling to regain customers from Westchester County and points north lost to work-from-home schedules.
Ridership at the Tremont and Spuyten Duyvil stations has risen by 163% and 152% respectively, outpacing post-pandemic ridership gains across the railroad, according to an MTA analysis of ticket sales between March 2022 and August released Monday.
The MTA credits the gains to the popularity of the CityTicket — $7 during peak hours and $5 the rest of the day — for rides between city stations that’s lured in customers who otherwise might have stayed away because of steeper station-to-station fares.
