Eventually, states and nations will probably need to find more water on the supply side — completely new ways to get fresh water to desert places like Arizona.
In the meantime, cities like Chandler and other end-users of large quantities of water must keep their focus on conservation, including water used on grass, landscaping and other needs at city parks.
The Chandler City Council has approved an agreement with Salt River Project that will hopefully assess all 70 of Chandler’s parks for water use efficiency.
Chandler maintains nearly 1,200 acres of developed parkland across its 70 parks. Simone Kjolsrud, the city’s water resources manager, said SRP will pay to assess a maximum of 15 parks per year, with the city and SRP splitting the cost, 50-50, of any upgrades or repairs the assessm
