CALUMET — Going into the bout Saturday, Keweenaw Roller Derby (KRD) knew they were playing a challenging opponent in the Rockford Rage Roller Derby (RRRD) squad. Ranked 85th in the North American Northeast division of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, RRRD was heavily favored.
They beat KRD 334-50 in a hard-hitting bout. When the match got underway, KRD focused on blocking, trying to keep the fast-paced jammers from RRRD from getting by.
Several players from RRRD were in Calumet just over a month ago for the KRD invitational Smackdown on the Farm. Skaters like Bratty Cake and Bride of Skatenstein already showed their speed and prowess on the oval, so KRD tried to contain them.
Four minutes in, KRD had yet to score a point, but they did manage to keep RRRD to only twelve points.
