HAWAI‘I COUNTY, Hawai‘i (Island News) -- A police dog with the Hawai‘i Police Department passed away on Thursday after he was left in a police car for a long period of time.
The Hawai‘i Police Department is mourning the tragic loss of K-9 Archer, a six-and-a-half-year-old Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix from Hungary. Archer was left unattended in a police car on Sept. 4, 2025 for what the department described as an “unacceptable period of time.”
Since joining in 2021, Archer was a valued member of the department’s Vice Section based in West Hawai‘i. He was trained in narcotics detection, serving alongside his handler in numerous operations to keep drugs and dangerous contraband out of the community.
Archer's favorite past time included "looking handsome and eating mangoes."
