OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Commerce awarded $41.1 million in Clean Energy Community Grants to 49 projects across 22 counties including Yakima, Kittitas and Walla Walla.

The funding, distributed this spring and summer, supports initiatives such as rooftop solar, battery storage and electric vehicle charging, Commerce announced in a press release .

Governor Bob Ferguson said the grants emphasize the state's commitment to clean energy, stating, "As the Trump Administration steps back from our clean energy economy, we’re stepping up."

In Kittitas County, the Easton School District was awarded $411,000 for a solar array.

Superintendent Aaron Kombol noted the project could save the district 15-20% on electrical needs, allowing reinvestment in student opportunities.
