INDIANAPOLIS - A new addition at one local elementary school is helping young students succeed.

It's not a new principal or a new teacher but a new therapy dog in training.

Michael Jane is named after two Star Trek Captains, but the students call her "MJ" for short. She is now in training to be the first official therapy dog of James Russell Lowell School 51, a Montessori School in the Martindale Brightwood neighborhood.

“There are amazing educators in this building who do tremendous academic and social and emotional work every day. MJ is an extension of that,” said Christine Rembert, the principal and MJ's owner.

MJ supports more than 300 students from Pre-K all the way up to fifth grade.
