Full disclosure. I cheat. When I am stuck, I look up clues online or turn to the back page. Crosswords sometimes use symbols instead of words or pack three letters into one box. How are you supposed to figure that out? That’s not why I do them. Yes, I enjoy learning new facts, but I can peek and still do that.
What I learn more than anything else is how to look at a situation from a new perspective. A listed clue can seem obvious at first, but you find that you are looking at it wrong. A clue might read: “To Transfer Power.” I think politics, but the answer is Cord. Or “Take a Course” sounds like school, but the solution is Eat.
