VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA)—A K9 and his partner with the Volusia Sheriff's Office encountered a bear while searching for a person in a wooded area over the weekend.

K9 Gator was searching the wooded area for an aggravated battery suspect when he encountered the bear.

"He found a hidden forest dweller instead: His first bear," VSO said in a post on Facebook.

The video shows the bear from overhead and the K9 with his partner stepping away.

VSO said both sides walked away unharmed and with "mutual respect."
