A man who fled to Indiana after allegedly beating a 76-year-old man to death and carjacking an SUV at a McDonald’s is in custody Tuesday, police said.
No charges have been announced for the 32-year-old suspect.
The attack unfolded about 9:15 p.m. at a bus stop in the 9500 block of South Halsted Street when the 32-year-old allegedly pushed a 76-year-old man to the ground and battered him, according to a police report.
Responding officers found him on the ground with apparent trauma to his head, Chicago police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
The attacker then walked down the street to a McDonald’s, 9560 S. Halsted St., where a woman had gone inside to order food, the report said. She left two children, 14 and 3, inside
