Police in Ntchisi have arrested a 24-year-old police officer, Precious Chiwere, on suspicion of stealing 26 bags of maize worth over K4 million from his girlfriend.

National Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya confirmed the arrest, stating that following a report, an investigation was carried out and the allegations were found to be true.

The suspect has since been taken into custody and is expected to appear in court soon.

Kalaya further revealed that 13 of the 26 stolen bags have been recovered.

He also warned that the Malawi Police Service does not condone criminal behavior among its officers and that anyone found breaking the law will be held accountable.
