Iconic Fremantle venue Bar Orient is set to close its doors following more than 120 years of operation on the harbour town’s bustling High Street.
Constructed in 1902 and opening as a bar in 1903, the venue became a stalwart of Fremantle’s West End, and one of the most storied live music precincts of the 20th century.
Formerly recognised as The Orient Hotel, the decision to shut up shop in the heritage-listed building comes under the directive of the building’s owner Tattarang, a private investment group owned by Andrew and Nicola Forrest.
PerthNow understands a development application by Tattarang to transform the space has not yet been submitted to local council, but that there is an expectation a new food and beverage offering will find a home there.
