Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as the new manager of Nottingham Forest, marking his return to the English Premier League. The announcement came on Tuesday, following the dismissal of Nuno Espírito Santo, who was let go after 21 months in charge. Postecoglou, who was previously sacked by Tottenham in June, has signed a contract with Forest that extends until June 2027.

The 60-year-old Australian coach has a rich history of success, having won titles in Australia, Japan, Scotland, and England. His appointment was confirmed by the club on social media, stating, "Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as the Club’s First Team Head Coach. Postecoglou has been in management for over 25 years, arriving on Trentside with experience of regularly competing and winning trophies at the highest level."

Postecoglou replaces Nuno, who was let go despite leading Forest to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season, their best result since 1994-95. The club expressed gratitude to Nuno for his contributions during a successful period at the City Ground. Nuno had taken over in December 2023 when the team was struggling in 17th place and successfully guided them to safety and a European spot.

However, the relationship between Nuno and Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis had reportedly soured. Tensions were evident after a dramatic confrontation on the pitch following a 2-2 draw against Leicester City last season. Nuno later clarified that the argument was related to a player’s injury and not the match outcome. Despite his achievements, Nuno's tenure ended after a disappointing finish to the last season, where the team earned only eight points from their final eight matches.

Marinakis, who has a history of hiring and firing managers, has long admired Postecoglou. Earlier this year, he presented Postecoglou with an award for being the first manager of Greek descent to win the Europa League. Marinakis praised Postecoglou's accomplishments, stating, "What he achieved, he did with a team that has not won any titles, it has had a very difficult time in recent years. We must thank him especially for this and we wish him well, although we are sure that he will do well as he has the ability. Wherever he goes, the successes will come."

Postecoglou's return to management comes after a challenging stint at Tottenham, where he led the club to a Europa League title but was dismissed due to poor league performance, finishing 17th. Tottenham has since started the current season strongly under new manager Thomas Frank.

Nottingham Forest currently sits 10th in the Premier League table and will host Tottenham at the City Ground on December 13. Postecoglou now has the opportunity to become the eighth manager to win the Europa League title with two different clubs.
