CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. (KPTV) - With wildfires at the top of mind, Portland General Electric (PGE) is making some major upgrades in Clackamas County.

A massive project underway will replace hundreds of power poles and miles of power lines.

PGE says the new covered wires are more resilient, safer, and less likely to cause outages or fires when branches land on them.

The iron poles that crews are installing are also expected to last at least 75 years and aren’t susceptible to either rot or wildfire damage.

“This is the largest distribution that PGE has done in recent history. We’re gonna be replacing about 760 poles and 45 miles of lines, and we’ll be continuing wildfire mitigation work for the foreseeable future,” said Ian Wilson, senior design lead for PGE.
