Three old fire trucks from Healy are headed to an auction house in Wasilla this week. Funds earned from the auction could be the final dollars required to buy a new fire truck for the Tri-Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

This new piece of equipment is critically needed, according to Fire Chief Megan Scoles. She learned quickly that making that happen was not going to be easy — the cost includes not just paying for the truck but paying another $20,000 to get it to Alaska.

The truck she selected is not exactly what the department hoped to find, but it is pretty darn close.

“We wanted a four wheel drive,” she said. “We’ve never had a four wheel drive. We really need that in the Denali Borough because of our road systems. We’re off roads a lot.”
