HOUSTON (KIAH) — Houston Commissioners are currently deliberating city budget cuts, with proposals set to be addressed in today's meeting.

According to County Judge Lina Hidalgo, the substantial $220 million deficit, requiring these measures, stems from a decision by three commissioners who allocated funds to the county without first seeking public input or a vote.

These proposed reductions to various Harris County departments are particularly concerning, as they coincide with a period of escalating federal disinvestment in essential public infrastructure and a weakening support system for working families.
