Fearing her abusive boyfriend, Jena MacDiarmid texted 911 for help about an hour before sunrise on Aug. 3, 2023.
She texted again 10 minutes later, with the text message’s broken sentences conveying a sense of urgency.
“It’s bout to be a domestic I can. Tell how he acting and talking to himself about me,” MacDiarmid texted.
Hurry, she pleaded in another text, telling the 911 call-taker she was unable to move, but that police had the code to gain access to her apartment building.
At 5:16 a.m. – 30 minutes into her text exchanges with 911 – the call-taker texted MacDiarmid saying, “ok police are there” and that officers had been told to knock on her apartment door in the complex on the 3400 block of Main Street in Buffalo’s University Heights neighborhood.
