CLOVIS, N.M.-- The Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Quentin Ray, announced today that Jeffery Smiley, 51, of Clovis, has been sentenced to 33 years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections. This sentence refers to a shooting incident in July 2023 that seriously injured his seven-year-old daughter when she was shot in the forehead.

According to a press release, the shooting occurred on July 11, 2023, shortly after Smiley attended a domestic violence hearing in Clovis, where he learned his divorce had been finalized and that he was prohibited from having contact with his daughter.
