A traffic stop led to the arrest of two people on felony drug possession charges in McDowell County.
On Sunday, Aug. 31, Deputy Jordan Cox with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a truck driven by James Robert Hughes, 42, of Morganton, for a traffic violation. Hughes was found to be operating the vehicle with no license, according to a news release.
A subsequent search of the vehicle by deputies turned up suspected amounts of fentanyl and methadone. Drug paraphernalia was found on passenger Amanda Sue Adkins, 33, who is homeless.
Cox charged Adkins and Hughes with felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. Both were given secured bonds in the amount of $10,000.
