EXCLUSIVE: L.A.-based Retrofit Films is developing biopic Macho Time about the meteoric rise and tragic fall of legendary boxer Héctor “Macho” Camacho.

Dominican actor Jan Luis Castellanos has signed to play the late boxer in the film.

In other news related to the project, Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), has been announced as an executive producer.

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Spanish Harlem, Camacho rose up the boxing ranks in New York in the 1980s, and made a name for himself for his quickness in the ring and flamboyant style.

Macho Time will explores Camacho’s journey through two parallel narratives: the boxer at his 1980s peak battling inner demons, and 11-year-old “Little Man” searching for his absent father through Spanish Harlem.
