BAR HARBOR, Maine — On Saturday, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ “I Scream!” ice cream truck visited Bar Harbor and parked on Main Street in front of Jordan Pond Ice Cream & Fudge.

PETA representatives in the truck were giving away free vegan ice cream as part of a campaign in which thousands of dairy-free treats were handed out nationwide, in protest of food made with animal products.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., a complaint was made that a food truck was in town giving out free ice cream, according to the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department.

Sgt. Soren Sundberg responded and determined that the PETA truck was “not in violation of any town ordinances due to not conducting any sales or obstructing any public way.”
