Pierce Clarkson, a UCLA backup quarterback who spent two seasons at the University of Louisville, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon with great bodily injury, according to the Los Angeles Times .

In a statement, a UCLA athletic department spokesperson said the university is “aware of the charges against” Clarkson.

“He has been indefinitely suspended from all team activity pending the outcome of the legal process,” the spokesperson said. “This situation will be evaluated by the UCLA Office of Student Conduct and any further action taken will be in accordance with that evaluation and University policy.”

The Los Angeles Times reported that Drake Madison, a public information officer from the Los Angeles Police Department, said that the weapon was not a firearm.
