LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (WCAX) - The U.S. Men’s Olympic ice hockey team, famous for the “Miracle on Ice” game, is getting a high honor 45 years later.
In 1980, the American team, made up of amateurs, defeated the four-time Olympic champion Soviet Union team in Lake Placid in the semi-final, and went on to win gold.
It was an achievement that sparked an era of American patriotism, and the game came to be known as the Miracle on Ice.
