A missing Asheboro boy has been found dead after a two day search, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

Liam A King, 7, was found in a pond near where he went missing, the sheriff's office said.

Liam, who was nonverbal, was reported missing on Sunday. He was seen walking in the area of Forest Hills Drive.

Multiple law enforcement agencies searched on the ground and in the air around the area where he was reported missing.

"We are absolutely devastated. I wish more than anything that we had a different outcome—for Liam’s family, for our community, and for the hundreds of first responders and volunteers who poured their hearts into finding him alive," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post.
