David Bedkowski has made his goal for the Buffalo Sabres’ training camp very clear.

Stay as long as possible with the team that drafted him in June.

Bedkowski, a 6-foot-5 defenseman from Owen Sound of the Ontario Hockey League, will wind down a whirlwind summer when he joins the Sabres last week for the annual Prospects Challenge. Practices begin Wednesday and the tournament begins Thursday. The Sabres prospects open against the New Jersey Devils’ prospects at 7 p.m. at LECOM Harborcenter.

Then, Bedkowski will segue into his first NHL training camp. He plans to take what he learned during a summer practice stint with established NHL veterans for four weeks in Buffalo, and parlay that into the foundation for a professional career.
