LEXINGTON, S.C. (WBTV) - A state trooper was airlifted to the hospital after he was hit by a vehicle on a South Carolina highway on Tuesday morning.

Sister-station reported that the trooper was conducting a traffic stop on near Lost Branch Road in Lexington when a local deputy slowed down to check on the trooper.

Authorities said a red truck that was behind the deputy did not slow down in time and crashed into the deputy. The truck then hit the vehicle stopped by the trooper, and an additional vehicle. The trooper -- who was out of his car -- was also hit.

It was not clear how severe the trooper’s injuries were. It was also unclear if anybody else was hurt in the wreck.
