(WXIN/WTTV) — An Indiana Congressman has introduced new legislation aiming to cut down on nationwide catalytic converter thefts.
Rep. Jim Baird, a Republican from Indiana’s 4th District, introduced the Preventing Auto Recycling Thefts (PART) Act on Tuesday. The bill aims to reduce the theft of catalytic converters across the country.
Joining Baird in endorsing the bill was Rep. Betty McCollum, a Democrat from Minnesota. According to a news release, the PART Act would work to combat auto parts theft by: • “Marking identifying information on catalytic converters,” • “Addressing how the parts are purchased,” and • “Strengthening enforcement of catalytic converter theft for local law enforcement.”
