Cedrick Marshall was driving an SUV when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a home at the corner of Cerise Avenue and Chef Menteur Highway. The vehicle broke through a fence and slammed into a bedroom where the teenager, Jamal Jackson Jr., was sleeping.

Jackson suffered serious injuries and remains in critical condition.

Authorities said Marshall remained at the scene but failed a sobriety test. At the time of the crash, his blood alcohol level was 0.255, more than three times the legal limit. A court-ordered drug screening showed he had cocaine in his system before his sentencing on Tuesday, and had used a ma
