Is it European Ryder Cup star Rory McIlroy’s silhouette that adorns a Team USA Ryder Cup T-shirt?
That is the question that has taken on a life of its own as a Ralph Lauren-designed shirt selling for $65 has gone viral.
The British papers have added fuel to the fire with The Telegraph dubbing it a “huge blunder” and The Guardian calling it “a faux pas.”
Sky Sports’ Jamie Weir asked McIlroy ahead of the BMW British Masters in England whether he recognized a resemblance to his follow thru that is depicted in the shirt. "It looks more like Adam Scott than me but yeah, it looks a little similar, I don't know," he said.
Weir followed up by asking: "There's going to be loads of American fans wearing McIlroy's silhouette on their top."
“That's OK, that's fine,” McIlroy responded. “I won't mind that!"
Regardless of whether it was Scott or McIlroy’s image that was used for the shirt, neither will be hitting any shots for Team USA at the upcoming Ryder Cup.
