LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Spot, a robotic K-9 manufactured by Boston Dynamics, is the Lake Charles Police Department’s new SWAT utility dog, used for observation and chemical detection.

Spot has a range of different motions, including walking, sitting, and even crawling.

Cpl. Russel Dennis said Spot’s functions are similar to how a human’s limbs work.

“Spot basically can maneuver because he has four separate motors in his shoulders. Because of that, he can stand real tall, crouch real low, and can articulate his body much like the knees that you have. He can flex. He can lean left, he can lean right, he can crouch, he can do all kinds of things,” Dennis said.
