A flood defence lock gate has failed, causing boats to be trapped inside and outside of the harbour ahead of potential flooding and bad weather this evening (Tuesday, September 9). The lock gate, at Sutton Harbour , failed yesterday (Monday) and has caused disruption for vessels inside and outside the harbour.

Vessels currently inside the harbour face a wait to be able to head out to sea once again. However, those outside the harbour have been unable to unload their catches.

In addition, vessels outside the harbour have been unable to safely moor in preparation for bad weather. Flood alerts have been issued ahead of high tide this evening and tomorrow morning and bad weather is set to affect those vessels not moored safely.
