Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates reacted to plans by Mayor Brandon Scott and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore to bring more state law enforcement into the city.

Bates spoke with WBAL’s T.J. Smith Tuesday afternoon and said he supports the idea of using state police and state transportation authority police in Baltimore to help assist in crime prevention.

However, Bates said that would only be if they are focused on quality-of-life crimes, such as car break-ins and vandalism. Bates added that the city’s biggest problem in violent crime is down.

“No one wants to see a bunch of mass arrests. We’d rather see the citations. Are you ready to write the citations?” Bates said. “Let’s do this because that’s what the community is talking about.”
