Ann Arbor – Michigan running backs coach Tony Alford said Justice Haynes and Jordan Marshall are still considered 1A and 1B, equals as starters, but the usage of both backs through the first two games suggests otherwise.
Haynes, who spent two seasons at Alabama before transferring to UM, has 284 yards on 35 carries and scored four touchdowns. His rushing total ranks fourth nationally and second in the Big Ten behind Washington’s Jonah Coleman, who has 288 yards. The bulk of Haynes’ yards, however, have come on three carries — a 56-yard touchdown in the opener and a 59-yard run also in that game, and a 75-yard touchdown in a loss at Oklahoma last Saturday.
