East Lothian RNLI crews were dispatched after a distress call came from a capsized dinghy.
The North Berwick volunteers were sent out on the Gentle JEKYM on Monday evening at 5.59pm. This came after the pan pan distress call, which indicates an urgent situation has developed.
An RS 800 sailing dinghy with two people on board had capsized onto a lobster pot’s marker buoy, wrapping a spinnaker sheet around it in the process. While those on board had made significant efforts to free themselves, they had been unable to.
Aberdeen Coastguard requested the launch of North Berwick RNLI Lifeboat. North Berwick’s Coastguard Rescue Team also attended to assist the sailors ashore.
