CHAUMONT, New York (WWNY) - It was a solemn yet celebratory day in Chaumont on Tuesday as the village’s newly renovated bridge was given a new name in honor of a fallen Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy.

His name is Michael J. Finerson

“I’m very touched that we have so many people in the community that came out who are taking time out of their busy day to come and pay tribute to my dad,” said Finerson’s daughter, Tammy Finerson-Beerman.

She was months away from celebrating her second birthday when her father, a Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy, was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic dispute. That was 55 years ago to the day of this dedication.
