Back on April 14th, Jose Siri hit the Injured List with a fractured tibia. Now, almost five months later, the Mets activated Siri from the IL today, and Siri will play center field and bat ninth for the Mets in tonight’s game against the Phillies. In a corresponding move, Jared Young has been optioned back to Triple-A Syracuse.
Siri played just ten games for the Mets before injury, going one for twenty with four walks and four strikeouts. In his stead, the Mets have been playing Tyrone Taylor (who is now on the IL himself), the deadline acquisition Cedric Mullins, and the out-of-position Jeff McNeil at center.
