The Lethbridge Animal Shelter says it is full and is unable to take more animals in.
This follows a trio of animal cruelty investigations, as the Lethbridge Police Service says it seized 20 animals in just the last week.
Eight of the dogs remain at the shelter and cannot legally be adopted or released at this time.
“At the same time, the shelter is getting more calls than usual about stray dogs,” reads an advisory from the City of Lethbridge. “To make sure the dogs already in the shelter continue to get proper care, the shelter has decided to temporarily stop accepting new dogs.”
Adoption of other shelter pets continues as normal.
