More than 4.6 tons of hard-to-recycle plastic has been transformed into dog park equipment at Essex County South Mountain Dog Park
The year-long recycling initiative at the park in Maplewood and Millburn was led by ShopRite, officials said.
Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr. joined representatives from ShopRite and TerraCycle last month to unveil the new equipment.
“Not only will this contribute to the dog park, but it removes recyclable materials from our waste stream and demonstrates what useful second life products can be created,” DiVincenzo said in a statement.
The pilot program collected flexible film packaging through dedicated kiosks at five ShopRite locations in Newark, Bloomfield, Livingston, Plainfield and Stirling.
