CLEMSON, S.C. (WSPA) - Clemson residents can expect a money-saving change soon, according to city officials.
New water meters are being installed by City of Clemson officials for 9,000 customers.
Residents can expect to see utility crews changing out water meters for the next six months. This is a part of the city’s "Automatic Meter Infrastructure" project.
“These meters will automatically read themselves. We will no longer have to send someone out to read the meters visually, or drive a truck out to read the meters. We can access all the usage online through a software,” said Dustin Hayes, City of Clemson Assistant Utilities Director.
Hayes said this matters because crews will now be able to easily see if an area has continuous leaks, backwards flow, or pop bursts.
