Northwest Indiana residents have an opportunity to share their thoughts this week as state officials continue developing a new, comprehensive plan for waste disposal and recycling.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has scheduled an open house and public feedback session on the pending state Materials Management Plan for 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Meeting Room B at the Porter County Public Library, 103 Jefferson St., Valparaiso.
The new plan aims to improve on Indiana's 1990 solid waste plan by bolstering recycling and prioritizing waste reduction to reach a 50% recycling rate.
